Paxil Uses:
Paxil is prescribed to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is also given for other conditions as well.

Paxil Directions:
When using Paxil, you should follow the directions carefully. Always drink a full glass of water when you take a dose. You can take Paxil with or without food. However, you should always swallow each tablet whole. Do not break, crush, or chew the controlled-release tablets. Do not stop taking Paxil without talking to your doctor for instructions, since unpleasant side effects can result from suddenly stopping taking Paxil. It can take four week of Paxil therapy before you begin to feel an improvement.

Paxil Side Effects:
Some people report serious side effects related to Paxil. You must get emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); unusual bleeding or bruising; an irregular heartbeat or pulse; low blood pressure (dizziness, weakness); high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision); chills or fever; a rash or hives. Other potential side effects are less dangerous, such as headache, tremor, nervousness, or anxiety; difficulty concentrating; nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, or changes in appetite or weight. Consult with your doctor about any that bother you.

Paxil Warnings:
Paxil is not recommended for people with problems listed above, or your doctor may require you to undergo additional monitoring. Paxil falls in the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that it is not known if it will harm unborn babies. If you are pregnant or likely to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before using Paxil. This medication is excreted in breast milk so talk to your doctor before taking it if you are nursing.

Paxil Drug Interactions:
Never take Paxil if you?ve taken monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as tranylcypromine (Parnate), isocarboxazid (Marplan), or phenelzine (Nardil), anytime in the last fourteen days, since a potentially fatal drug interaction can possibly occur. A serious condition involving an irregular heartbeat can also happen if you take thioridazine (Mellaril) in addition to Paxil so wait at least five weeks before taking Paxil. Make sure your doctor knows if you have ever had seizures, kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, or have mania or suicidal thoughts. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor before taking Paxil.

Paxil Missed Dose:
If you forget, take your missed Paxil dose when you remember, but return to your regular routine after that. Do not double your dosage to catch up.

Paxil Storage:
Paxil should not be exposed to sunlight or moisture. Make sure it?s not accessible to children.
