What is Allegra:
Allegra is an antihistamine. Antihistamines work against the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body.
Allegra is used to prevent sneezing, runny nose, itching and watering of the eyes, and other allergic symptoms.
Allegra may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
How Take Allegra:
- Take Allegra exactly as directed. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
- Take each dose with a full glass of water.
Allegra is usually taken twice a day, in the morning and the evening. Follow your doctor's instructions.
- Do not take Allegra close to a dose of an antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium such as Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta, Milk of Magnesia, Pepcid Complete, and others. These antacids may decrease the effects of Allegra.
- Never take more of this medication than is directed by your doctor. If your symptoms are not being adequately treated, talk to your doctor.
Missed Dose:
If you miss a dose of Allegra, take the Allegra as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next Allegra dose, take only 1 dose of Allegra. DO NOT double up the Allegra doses. Take Allegra on an empty stomach if possible.
Overdose::
Seek emergency medical attention.
Symptoms of a fexofenadine overdose are not well known.
Allegra Contraindications:
Allergies - Hypersensitivity to Allegra or Allegra components
Allegra is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether Allegra will harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.
It is also not known whether Allegra passes into breast milk. Do not take Allegra without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Allegra is not approved for use by children younger than 6 years of age.
Common Allegra Side Effects:
May occur during the first few days after beginning therapy, but usually resolve: Nausea, upset stomach, menstrual cramps, fatigue, or cold and flu symptoms Drowsiness, though rare, may occur at any dose
Serious Allegra Side Effects:
Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: Worsening of any of common side effects Allergic reaction symptoms such as a red skin rash; itching; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat; wheezing; chest pain; and difficulty breathing
Allegra Interactions:
Drug - There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, which will alter the action of Allegra. Some include sedatives, tranquilizers, narcotics, antidepressants, and other antihistamines. It is extremely important that you consult with your doctor about dosing schedules if you take a variety of medications along with Allegra. DO NOT take any new medication without talking with your doctor first.
What other drugs will affect fexofenadine:
Do not take fexofenadine close to a dose of an antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium such as Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta, Milk of Magnesia, Pepcid Complete, and others. These antacids may decrease the effects of fexofenadine.
Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with fexofenadine. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking other medications, including herbal products.
Allegra Storage:
Keep Allegra at room temperature. Protect Allegra from sunlight and moisture.

Fexofenadine is available with a prescription under the brand name Allegra. Other brand or generic formulations may also be available. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about this medication, especially if it is new to you.
