Zyban Uses:
Zyban medication is used in smoking cessation treatments. As the first prescription pill that doesn?t contain nicotine, it?s only available from a doctor. The medication has given many people the help they needed to finally succeed at quitting smoking, even those who?ve been smoking for over ten years. You can take it privately so no one even has to know about it. Zyban is an antidepressant and helps elevate your moods. It?s been used to treat depression and other problems as well. Your doctor can give you more information.

Zyban Directions:
ZYBAN gets you ready to put down your cigarettes. You start taking ZYBAN and set a quit date to stop smoking during the second week. Most people should take ZYBAN for at least 7 to 12 weeks. When you stop smoking, continue to take ZYBAN as recommended by your healthcare professional. One pill 2 times a day can help you break free from smoking. Zyban comes as a tablet to take by mouth. You usually take it one to three times a day and may be taken with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or divide the tablets. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Zyban exactly as directed. Continue to take Zyban even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Zyban without talking to your doctor, especially if you have taken large doses for a long time. Your doctor probably will want to decrease your dose gradually. This drug must be taken regularly for a few weeks before its full effect is felt.

Zyban Side Effects:
A small percentage of those taking Zyban report having dry mouth, change in appetite or weight, sleep problems such as insomnia, nightmares, or drowsiness, or anxiety. If you have any of the following symptoms and they do not fade over time, talk to your doctor about it. Side effects include excessive sweating, blurred vision, difficulty urinating, change in sex drive or ability, constipation, or headaches. Your doctor needs to know about any serious side effects immediately. These include irregular heartbeat, loss of coordination, yellowing of the skin or eyes, serious skin rashes, or seizures or tremors.

Zyban Warnings:
Most people report no problems with taking Zyban. It can, however, cause seizures if used in large quantities. If your medical history includes seizures, a brain tumor or head injury, or an eating disorder, make sure your physician is aware of this. Additionally, if you are currently taking any tranquilizers, antidepressants, or anti-psychotic drugs, tell your doctor. Your doctor should also know if you have ever had any heart, liver or kidney disease, if you have glaucoma, an overactive thyroid or enlarged prostate, or difficulty urinating. Pregnant women, of those likely to become pregnant, should talk to their doctor before taking Zyban. If you are breastfeeding, speak to your doctor about this as well. You may experience drowsiness while taking Zyban. Do not drive until you have taken Zyban long enough to know if this will effect you. Drinking alcohol while taking Zyban can make you even drowsier.

Zyban Drug Interactions:
Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Bupropion or any other drugs. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, or have taken in the last 2 weeks, especially anticoagulants [warfarin (Coumadin)]; antihistamines; carbamazepine (Tegretol); cimetidine (Tagamet); levodopa (Sinemet, Larodopa); lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid); MAO inhibitors [phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate)]; medication for high blood pressure, seizures, asthma, colds, or allergies; methylphenidate (Ritalin); ritonavir (Norvir); sedatives; sleeping pills; thyroid medications; tranquilizers; and vitamins.

Zyban Missed Dose:
If you take several Zyban per day and forget a scheduled dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it?s almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal schedule. If you only take one Zyban per day and forget a dose until hours later, do not try to squeeze it in. Just take your next regularly scheduled dose and never double dose.

Zyban Storage:
Zyban should be stored in the original container. Keep it tightly closed and away from children. Store the medication at room temperature and not in areas that are extra warm or moist, such as a bathroom. Discard any pills that are expired or not needed. Your pharmacist can tell you how to properly dispose of unneeded prescriptions.

Anything Else I Should Know About Zyban:
Health insurance plans sometimes cover the costs of smoking cessation treatments. Check your policy to see if your Zyban costs can be covered. If not, it?s still worth the money, since it?s better for you both physically and financially in the long run. A pack a day habit costs you .095 per year, which makes Zyban a better financial choice. Certain brain chemicals called norepinephrine and dopamine are responsible for mood. If these chemicals get out of balance, you can experience depression. Zyban works to keep these chemicals in balance and cut out the symptoms of depression.
