Zoloft Uses:
The medication Zoloft is given for obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), generalized anxiety disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The medication can also be used to treat other conditions.
Zoloft Directions:
You should follow instructions carefully while taking Zoloft. Take your pills with a full glass of water. You can choose whether or not to eat when taking Zoloft. This medication will work the best if you take the pills at the same time every day. It may take several weeks of Zoloft therapy before you can feel a difference. Don?t stop taking this medication too suddenly or without your doctor?s permission, or you may experience negative side effects.
Zoloft Side Effects:
Stop taking Zoloft and contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical treatment if you experience any of the following: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); an irregular heartbeat or pulse; low blood pressure (dizziness, weakness); high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision); or chills or fever. If you experience any of the following less serious side effects, continue taking Zoloft and talk to your doctor: headache; tremor, nervousness, or anxiety; nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, or changes in appetite or weight; sleepiness or insomnia. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Zoloft Warnings:
Do not stop taking Zoloft without first talking to your doctor. It may take 4 weeks or more for you to start feeling better and you may experience unpleasant side effects if you stop taking Zoloft suddenly. Do not share this medication with others.
Zoloft Drug Interactions:
You should not use Zoloft if you have used monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) within the last two weeks. This combination can sometimes cause fatal reactions. This prescription is also not to be combined with pimozide (Orap), or serious complications may develop. It?s possible to experience drug interactions with many other prescription and over the counter products. Your doctor must know about all medications you are using. You should not take Zoloft Oral Concentrate if you are also taking disulfiram (Antabuse). The oral version of Zoloft has alcohol in it, which can interfere with the disulfiram (Antabuse). Check with your doctor or pharmacist before you begin taking any new medications.
Zoloft Missed Dose:
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
Zoloft Storage:
Store it at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
