Uses:
Retin-A is for those who suffer from acne. It works by cutting down on the appearance of new pimples by speeding the healing of existing pimples. This medication can also be used to treat skin that has been damaged by the sun. With long term use Retin-A can reverse the signs of aging for as long as ten years. Some studies have also shown that using Retin-A is an effective treatment for new stretch marks or those that are currently enlarging.

Directions:
Apply a thin layer to affected area once a day at bedtime. Use a gauze pad or cotton swab to apply the liquid. Wash your hands immediately after use. Using this medication more frequently or in excessive amounts does not improve the results, but may increase side effects. Avoid applying near the eyes, mouth, or open cuts since this medication can irritate sensitive skin. Acne may appear to worsen when the medication is first used; continue therapy. It may take three to six weeks before the full benefits of this medication are seen.Use mild soap when washing your face. Do not wash face excessively. Abrasive soaps, cleansers, medicated creams or lotions can increase skin irritation. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about their use. Use other acne preparations with caution while using this medication. In the event of exceptional exposure (such as a day at the lake), avoid (if possible) applying the cream the day prior to the day of exposure to the sun as well as the day after exposure. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth and nose. Should contact occur, rinse the affected area carefully with plenty of water.

Side Effects:
Begin using Retin-A on a small area of skin to see if you will react to it. Using Retin-A increases your sensitivity to sunlight and ultraviolet light. Avoid too much exposure to sun or sunlamps. While using Retin-A, make sure to wear sunscreen. If you develop an extreme reaction to the sun, you should discontinue using Retin-A. When first using Retin-A, it is expected that your skin will appear worse. Continue treatment, since it is merely healing deep cysts faster than normal. You should also be cautious about allowing your skin to be exposed to wind or very cold air. If you have any reactions, stop using Retin-A and speak to your doctor.

Warnings:
This medication can increase sensitivity to sunlight, wind and cold. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and sunlamps. Wear protective clothing and use an effective sunscreen. This medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known if tretinoin appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Use mild soap when washing your face. Do not wash face excessively. Abrasive soaps, cleansers, medicated creams or lotions can increase skin irritation. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about their use. Use other acne preparations with caution while using this medication.

Drug Interactions:
This product should be used with caution due to the possible interaction of Retin-A with related external medication, abrasive soaps, drying cosmetics and products with high alcohol content. Care should also be taken regarding the application of preparations containing sulphur, resorcinol or salicylic acid.

Missed Dose:
If you forgot to apply Retin-A at your regular time, you can apply it as soon as you remember. Return to your regular time the next day. Do not, however, apply Retin-A more than once per day.

Storage:
Store at room temperature away from sunlight. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.

Notes:
Cosmetics may be used, but clean skin thoroughly before applying Retin-A.

Anything Else I Should Know About:
Make sure you have no rash or abraded skin as a result of exfoliant or keratolytic treatments before beginning to use Retin-A. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, talk to your physician about using Retin-A. You can expect your skin to be irritated by Retin-A. It will become less pronounced after using the medication for a while. Be careful to remove all makeup before applying Retin-A to your skin.
