Nexium Uses:
The medication in Nexium acts to turn off the little acid pumps in your stomach. It is prescribed to treat acid reflux disease.

Nexium Directions:
The directions for Nexium should be carefully followed. Take each dose an hour before your meal. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or broken. Those who have a hard time swallowing pills can open the capsule and combine the contents with a spoonful of applesauce. Make sure to swallow the applesauce all at once and without chewing. Any remaining applesauce mixture should be discarded. If your physician has also prescribed antacids for you, you may take them with Nexium.

Nexium Side Effects:
Some mild side effects are reported among those who use Nexium. They include constipation, diarrhea, cough, and headache. These side effects should disappear, but if they continue or are bothersome, talk to your doctor. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pain, severe stomach pain, throat pain, or coffee-ground vomit. If you feel that you are having an allergic reaction to Nexium, get immediate medical attention. Symptoms of a reaction include itching, swelling, rash, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. Report any other side effects to your doctor.

Nexium Warnings:
When planning to begin Nexium treatment, make sure your doctor knows about all medications or over the counter products you regularly use. Do not begin to take anything else without informing your doctor. You should not take Nexium if you?ve ever had an allergic reaction to Prilosec. Do not use Nexium if you are breastfeeding, since it may be excreted in breast milk. Discuss the risks and benefits of Nexium with your doctor if you are pregnant.

Nexium Drug Interactions:
Before taking Nexium, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines: digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps); itraconazole (Sporanox) or ketoconazole (Nizoral); or iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others). You may not be able to take Nexium, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.

Nexium Missed Dose:
Nexium should be taken according to a dosing routine. If you forget, take it when you remember, but return to your regular routine after that. Do not take it if it?s almost time for your next dose. Use caution to avoid double dosing.

Nexium Storage:
Nexium prescriptions should be stored in a place free of moisture and sunlight, and at room temperature. Keep all medications away from children.

Anything Else I Should Know About Nexium:
Nexium works by cutting down on the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It is used to treat ulcers, heartburn (GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease) erosive esophagitis, and other medical conditions resulting from an excess of stomach acids.
