Lexapro Uses:
Lexapro falls into the category of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). They work by keeping brain chemicals in balance and preventing depression. It increases seratonin levels. This medication is usually used to treat depression.
Lexapro Directions:
Most people begin using Lexapro by taking 10 mg per day. It is taken once a day, either with or without food, and in the morning or evening. Keep your prescriptions filled ahead of time so you do not miss a dose. For best results, make sure to follow all of your doctor?s instructions.
Lexapro Side Effects:
Most people experience few side effects when using Lexapro. The most common side effects are nausea, insomnia, and problems with ejaculation, drowsiness, increased sweating, and fatigue. These side effects are usually mild and go away after using Lexapro for a while. Most patients do not choose to stop taking Lexapro because of these side effects.
Lexapro Warnings:
Lexapro can be safely used in combination with most other drugs, but not with antidepressants in the category monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). You should never take MAOIs at the same time as Lexapro, or within two weeks of each other. Tell your doctor about all other medications you are using, including herbals, diet supplements, and over the counter medicine.
Lexapro Drug Interactions:
Never take Lexapro if you have experienced an allergic reaction to any of its ingredients. Most people have to take Lexapro for several weeks before they feel any differently. You should not stop taking Lexapro unless your doctor knows about it. He or she can arrange to gradually reduce your doses to avoid unpleasant side effects. It?s important to keep all appointments with your doctor and lab, since additional monitoring is required when using Lexapro. Tell your doctor if you develop panic attacks, anxiety, agitation, irritability, hostility, difficulty sleeping, impulsive feelings, severe restlessness, or worsening of depression while using Lexapro. You may need your medication to be reevaluated. If you are responsible for someone who is using this medication, watch him or her closely for these symptoms, and call their doctor if you notice any of them. Ask the doctor about any questions you may have. Be cautious about driving or working with heavy machinery while using Lexapro, since it can cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not engage in any potentially dangerous activities until you know how Lexapro will affect you. Use as little alcohol or other depressants as possible while on Lexapro, since it can make drowsiness or dizziness worse. Always check with your doctor before you start any new medications, or stop taking any. This is true for prescription as well as non-prescription drugs. This is most important for other products that also make you feel drowsy. Elderly patients should be cautious when using it, since they may be more susceptible to its effects. Watch children closely, since they are more sensitive as well. Women who are pregnant or likely to become pregnant should talk to their doctor before taking Lexapro to make sure it?s absolutely necessary, especially during the third trimester. This medication is excreted in breast milk. Do not take Lexapro if you are breastfeeding.
Lexapro Missed Dose:
If you miss a Lexapro dose, take it as soon as you remember, but return to your regular dosing after that. Never double your doses.
Lexapro Storage:
Lexapro should not be exposed to sunlight or moisture. Make sure it's not accessible to children.
